migraine series (2024)

Created in early 2024, this series of six oil-on-wood panels explores the hidden, solitary realities of living with chronic migraines. Drawing directly from personal experience, the work visualises a condition often overshadowed by misconceptions and underestimated in its debilitating impact.

The series captures the claustrophobia of the dark, quiet rooms required during an attack, where the bed functions as both a necessary sanctuary and a prison. The paintings navigate the unpredictability of chronic illness, the complex relationship with medication, and the surreal, clinical environments of medical testing. Ultimately, the series was created to materialise an invisible disability, fostering empathy and making the profound isolation of chronic pain visible.
